The Science Museum Group (SMG), which includes the London Science Museum and the National Railway Museum in York, is world renowned for its historic collections, awe-inspiring galleries and inspirational exhibitions. Our vision is to be the best place in the world for people to enjoy science.

As part of the pre-planning for the new Making Modern Communications gallery the Science Museum offers a rare opportunity for an enthusiastic and commercially minded photographer to work part-time, three days per week, for three months as part of a small dedicated team producing technically informative and creatively exciting digital images of objects from the Shipping gallery during the decant. Resulting images will be reproduction standard and provide a high quality visual resource of this unique collection suitable for commercial exploitation and research. Images will also be used to showcase our collections through on-line resources.

Consistently high levels of throughput and quality and an ability to work quickly and efficiently as part of a dedicated team are essential to the delivery of this project. The successful applicant will therefore need to demonstrate, by way of their CV, portfolio and practical exercise, appropriate digital photographic and post production skills and an ability to work well in a small team environment to produce creative and interesting studio quality photographs under pressure.
